What the number in the name means

It is not always the diameter. On the Model 8, Delta, Galaxy and Aloura the number is the diameter; on the Libra it is the width. But on the Leaf, Diva, Space and Quadra the number is the HEIGHT: a Leaf 127 is 127 cm tall and only 47 cm across. The table below lists both, so size from the widest horizontal measurement, not from the name.

The sizing rule

A pendant should be roughly half to two-thirds the width of the surface it hangs over: a dining table, a kitchen island, a reception desk or a coffee table. Applied backwards, that tells you which surface each diameter suits, which is what the table below does.

This is a convention used widely across the lighting trade, not a Loomiosa measurement. Treat it as a starting point: a bold single pendant can go larger, a group of three should each go smaller.

When it hangs over open space

Over a stairwell, an entrance hall or a seating area there is no surface to measure against, and the rule above does not apply. Two things decide instead: the ceiling height and how much presence you want. This is where Loomiosa's own guidance is more useful than any formula; see the notes below.

How high to hang it

Over a dining table, the convention is to leave 75–90 cm between the tabletop and the bottom of the pendant: enough to light the table without blocking the view across it. Loomiosa lamps ship with a textile cable of 150 to 300 cm depending on the model and size; it can be shortened on installation, and other lengths are available on request.
